Dr Atsushi Kamigaichi is a medical doctor in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Hiroshima University Hospital. He received his medical degree from Hiroshima University in 2015 and his Ph.D. from Hiroshima University in 2026.

He completed his residencies in general and thoracic surgery at Hiroshima University and the National Cancer Center Hospital East. He is a board-certified surgeon of the Japan Surgical Society and a board-certified thoracic surgeon of the Japanese Association for Chest Surgery. He received the West Japan Oncology Group Award in 2025 and the ASCO Annual Meeting Merit Award in 2026.

His main clinical and research interests are sublobar resection for early lung cancer, neoadjuvant/adjuvant chemo-immunotherapy, and cancer immunity. Furthermore, he actively leads a pivotal clinical trial as the study manager for the Phase III WJOG16923L (STEP UP) trial (comparing segmentectomy and lobectomy for clinical stage IA3 pure-solid NSCLC) and the Phase II FRONTIR trial (evaluating the feasibility of segmentectomy following neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy for stage II-III NSCLC).
