Dr Yap Cheng Hon is a cardiothoracic surgeon and clinical academic with more than 20 years of experience in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. His subspecialty expertise includes sternal-sparing minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery, encompassing robotic and minimally invasive valve repair and replacement, minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting (MIDCAB/OPCAB), robotic and video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) thoracic resections, and robotic/endoscopic mediastinal surgery. He is a pioneer in establishing robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery programmes across Australia and Southeast Asia.
Dr Yap is a frequent invited faculty member, live surgery operator, and proctor for Medtronic, Edwards Lifesciences, Artivion, and Intuitive Surgical (da Vinci). He is an experienced clinical investigator with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and serves as Principal Investigator on multiple lung cancer registries and randomised clinical trials. His academic appointments include Affiliate Associate Professor at Deakin University, Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at Monash University, and Honorary Professor and Clinical Consultant Surgeon at Rajavithi Hospital, Bangkok. His leadership roles include chairing cardiac services committees, overseeing database governance, contributing to clinical guidelines, and serving on regional cancer service advisory committees.
